Per a conscientious observer…

99. Buy a Vinyl at Amoeba

No Angelino ever thought they’d live to see the day when Tower Records on Sunset Strip would close its doors for good. But after the emergence of internet piracy and “big-box” stores like Wal-Mart and Circuit City rolled into town like a band of hyenas, pillaging local business, leaving nothing but a trail of 89 tower chains stripped bare in their wake, the storied record retailer was forced to sell their properties for liquidation.

Conquered and weary, legions of wayward music enthusiasts ask, “Where do we go now?”

And like a shimmering light of hope, Amoeba Records shines in a landscape of super centers and big-box stores.

Since 1990 Amoeba Records has sustained the curious appetites of music aficionados all along the west coast. Founded in Berkeley, California, an all American town known for its egalitarian ways, the super store is a strong supporter of independent music and legendary artists who paved the way. As big or probably bigger than most large record stores (28,000 sq. ft.), nobody rivals Amoeba’s collection, not in size or in variety.

Amoeba is committed to serving the community as well, not just its music needs but for more noble causes like rebuilding the Gulf Coast, saving the rain forests and donating profits to a slew of charitable organizations. Its community ties and amiable staff, emanate a warm mom and pop feeling for customers; only mom and pop are not the only ones running the place. At any given time there can be a staff of over 40 people working in the store, all very knowledgeable and eager to assist you.

The best reason to visit Amoeba Records, at least once in your life is to check out the unparalleled prices. New cd’s can be marked down as low as $10 and most used cd’s are much cheaper. Wanna check out a free concert? Call or check their marquee for in-store performances as well.
